With a 5-hour all-nighter lined up at Kaap this Friday, May 2nd, UK-based producer and DJ Tim Green is no stranger to Amsterdam's underground scene. From ADE showcases to legendary dance floors like Thuishaven and GZG, he's been building deep connections with the city's crowd for over a decade.

Ahead of his long-awaited return to Kaap, we asked Tim five quick questions to help set the mood for the night.

You've played in Amsterdam before, including a set at Kaap. What's your connection to the city and how does it feel to return?

Yes, I love playing in Amsterdam. My two most recent sets there were at the Lost Miracle label showcase during the last ADE, and at Kaap for the Moments label night in 2024. I've actually been playing at ADE on and off since around 2010. One show that really stands out to me was at GZG - it was a massive crowd and room, but the energy was incredible and I felt a strong connection with the people. I also loved playing at Thuishaven back in 2014 - such a cool circus vibe, haha. So yeah, I know Amsterdam quite well to be honest. I've always had a great time playing here over the years, and I'll always jump at the chance to come back.

What's one track in your current sets that really connects with the crowd and why do you think it hits so hard?

I'd say my favorite right now is an unreleased track called ‘Body Stars'. It's finally coming out on All Day I Dream this August. It's been a long time coming, mostly because I needed to finish the full EP. But every time I play it, the reactions are amazing - people always ask me what the track is and when it's being released. Which is always a great feeling. I'm really excited for it to finally be out in the world.

How would you describe your sound or vibe to someone who's never heard you play before?

Well first and foremost for people who dont know me, im playing lots of different sounds and sun genres derived from house and techno. But more in depth I think the sound of my DJ sets could be described as very musical, but with a lot of groove. Musically im striving for it to be intelligent and thoughtful - but still accessible. Accessible because I love music that people can connect with instantly, even if they've never heard it before. There's often something familiar about it, whether it's the melody or overall style. But I always try to add a twist - to reimagine or present things in a new light. I'm constantly searching for that special something in the tracks I play - music that pushes boundaries in a subtle, musical way.

When you're digging for tracks or making music, what do you look for? What pulls you in?

When I'm digging for tracks, I look for something memorable and catchy first and foremost. I want the audience to remember the songs and leave the night singing them. At the same time, I'm always searching for that sweet spot - music that's truly musical, but not so overdone that it feels overwhelming or “too much” for the dancefloor. It's a constant balancing act, and one I'm always on the quest to get just right.

Got a message for the Amsterdam crowd? What can we expect from this 5-hour journey at Kaap and why shouldn't anyone miss it?

Like I mentioned before, I'm really into a wide range of styles and sounds within house and techno. I've released house, techno, minimal, and even disco records - I love the diversity and freedom within electronic music. My set this Friday at Kaap will be a real journey: a blend of different sounds that evolve throughout the night. I really hope you can all be there to dance, connect, and soak up the music together!
